HISTORY OF DETROIT COMMUNITY SAILING CENTER
1994
Founded as Challenge the Wind Youth Sailing Program by the Grayhaven Sail Club with a mission to teach sailing to people who would not otherwise get exposure to the sport
2004
Non-Profit 501(c)(3) status granted, and governed by a board
2011
Adopted a 10-year growth plan with 2 sailboats and 8 participants
2018
Relocated to Belle Isle Boat House with 26 sailboats and capacity for 80 participants
2021
Expanded and renamed Detroit Community Sailing Center to reflect the broader community we serve and sustain our youth programs
2023
Grew the youth program to 3 two week sessions, serving nearly 80 youth throughout the summer
