We will build two Optimist sailboat in the workshop. This is the same boat used in our Lean to Sail program, except it will be made using marine grade wood. This is the method originally used to build Optimist. We will have two teams made up of 5 - 7 participants working together to build the boats.
Participants will also learn the historical, cultural and environmental aspects of the river where their newly build boats will sail. The workshop includes professional carpentry instructions appropriate for participant's age with close adult supervision.
This is a pilot for the program so we may make adjustments as the workshop proceeds. We will communicate regularly with parents on any adjustments. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend each session and learn along with their the boat builder/sailor.
