PARTNERSHIP WITH DETROIT SWIMS

Water Safety Course for CTW Participants included in sailing fee

Important Note for all first time Challenge the Wind participants
First time participants are required to register with Detroit
Swims and attend, at minimum, the first day. This replaces our first day swim assessment requirement.

Schedule for Detroit Swim Classes at Belle Isle

Detroit Swims' 4-day session will be conducted during the first week of each Challenge the Wind session in the afternoons. Detroit Swims will be conducted at the Belle Isle beach and at the Boathouse.

Registration
Registration will open in June. Once you register for Challenge the Wind you will get a Detroit Swims notification email and a link.

We are excited to continue our partnership with Detroit
Swims. We share the same objective of promoting water safety. Detroit SWIMS is a local non-profit focused on water safety education created by the Detroit Metro YMCA. Water safety is an integral part of sailing, and our goal is to provide an opportunity to make our participants’ experience on the water even better and safer.

Classes are focused on water safety: skills include floating, jumping, face in the water, jump/ turn/ reach, life jacket safety, self-rescue, and advancing into swim stamina if they are ready.

Even if participants have swim experience, this is still a valuable opportunity as they include water safety around docks and water, which is our environment during the sailing program.

Detroit Swims instructors are patient, understanding, and work with the skill level of the participant. Lifeguard is on duty at all times. Participation in this program is not required, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
